Could not agree with you more. In my little country dacha, I sometimes wonder if I've become detached from humanity, or that humanity is simply, incontrovertibly detached from reason. The latter wins...and these political wingnuts best remember that Vladimir Putin is far more liked in his homeland than Joey B. is here stateside. Thanks, Matt!

Excellent piece. To paraphrase a headline I saw on ZH, war in the Ukraine would amount to big costs with no benefits. In truth isn't that the prevailing model, the quintessential US conflict at least since 9/11? As always, thanks Matt.

Honestly, there is no point in challenging these powerful authoritarian Communist regimes like Russia and China and making them hostile when we have 14,000 people dying around the world every day due to the Pandemic, one-fourth of that is from this country. This is the time we all have to be united to fight the Pandemic and not fight with each other. https://hram.substack.com/p/foreign-policy

"Since Soviet times as much as 80% of Europe’s Russian gas imports traversed Ukraine— but lately those flows have since slowed to a trickle, due to Washington’s eight-year proxy war in Donbas, NATO expansion, Kiev’s tendency to syphon Russian gas and not pay its bills, and other factors. It is little wonder Moscow is scrambling to establish alternate routes avoiding third-party generated instability."
